5 tried and tested ways of dealing with weak bladder symptoms.

To get a handle on your bladder issue, you’ve first got to work out which kind of incontinence you have, and bear in mind that it is possible to suffer from both. “For women with stress incontinence, [it’s important to] strengthen your pelvic floor muscles as would for any other muscle weakness in any other part of the body…”

Would You MICRONEEDLE YOUR VAGINA? Let's Talk

Let’s talk about vulva rejuvenation. Vaginal laxity can be caused by aging, hormonal changes, and vaginal childbirth. Some women with vaginal laxity experience loss of sensation, urinary incontinence, and other symptoms that affect overall wellness (and sexual desire).

I want to share my experience with a noninvasive treatment called Votiva combined with Morpheus8 RF microneedling. It’s literally a makeover for your vulva that’s safe and has minimal downtime.

Votiva (which combines heat, radiofrequency, and external fractional treatment) is an effective non-surgical treatment for vaginal rejuvenation. It helps to reverse not only the aesthetic but also the functional changes of aging from the inside out. It helps stimulate collagen and elastin, and I believe this is the true path to anti-aging and better skin function. This treatment combined with Morpheus8 RF microneedling helps create new collagen, which gives the tissue its strength, produces elastin, and helps with the formation of new blood vessels, bringing more oxygen and nutrients to the skin. Those benefits, along with restoring moisture and normalizing vaginal pH, aid in better vaginal health and increased vaginal sensations.

Urinary incontinence: it’s no laughing matter

If you leak when you chuckle, sneeze or cough, you’re not the only one. We get the lowdown on this embarrassing condition Do you leak when you laugh, sneeze, cough or jump? If so, you are not alone: it’s estimated that one-in-three of us suffer from urinary incontinence. So what are the main causes and what can help improve this embarrassing condition?

“Incontinence is the primary reason why women end up in care homes,” shares intimate health expert, Dr Shirin Lakhani. While it’s estimated that a third of us are suffering from the condition, the figure is likely to be much higher as it’s believed many people fail to report it to their doctor, wrongly thinking that it’s ‘normal’ or ‘just what we women have to put up with,’ especially with high-profile advertising of incontinence products normalising a medical issue that can be treated.

Vaginal rejuvenation treatments -what are they and do we need them? by Dr Shirin Lakhani

Vaginal rejuvenation treatments are becoming increasingly popular- but what are they and do we need them? There are now more treatments available which promise vaginal tightening, enhanced orgasms and increased lubrication. And many celebrities have taken up the trend, with Kim and Kourtney Kardashian both having had tightening treatments after childbirth and Jada Pinkett Smith made headlines when she opened up about her vaginal rejuvenation treatment for “health” and “vitality.”

But what are the benefits, what works and what can you do? Intimate health expert Dr Shirin Lakhani explains what treatments are available – and why it’s certainly not about achieving a ‘designer vagina’.

I took up exercise to get in shape - and it triggered embarrassing leaks every time I run: Here are the dangers to watch for

Like many new mothers, Annie Shilling was keen to get back into shape after the birth of her second daughter, throwing herself into a new fitness routine.

Her regimen, which began eight months after giving birth, of running and twice-weekly bootcamp sessions — involving fast-paced strength exercises and weight-lifting — soon had an effect and helped maintain a healthy lifestyle and sporty size 14 physique.

‘I’m a busy, single mum and exercise is time for me,’ says Annie, 37, an accountant, who lives in Gosport, Hants, with daughters, Lilian, eight, and Phoebe, seven. ‘It was a big change to my lifestyle and I felt the strain but relished the endorphins. I loved it.’

But soon after starting the new exercise routine, Annie experienced embarrassing leaks she’d never had before.

EmpowerRF – a game changer for women’s health

In aesthetic gynecology, maintaining normal function and anatomy is priority. Since there are several variations of normal vulval appearances as we age, it is usual to see imperfections. These are the important points I stress whenever I consult with Internet-savvy young patients in their 20s who often present wanting the perfect vulva and labia they see on adult websites. Moreover, ruling out body dysmorphic disorder is essential during the initial consultation.

Skin laxity from loss of collagen is systemic as women age. Loose skin on the labia is exacerbated by vulvovaginal atrophy or loss of fat pads. A desirable ‘normal’ look of the female external genitalia is a plump labia majora and a small labia minora.

Some patients with skin laxity of the labia majora and minora feel damaged, old and wrinkly and are embarrassed to be naked in front of a new partner. This can affect intimacy and their ability to move forward in a potentially happy and fulfilling relationship.
